Grand Rivers KY to Camden TN (Thurs-Sat, Nov 2-4). This leg brought us to our 6thstate (MI, IN, IL, MO, KY, TN). The Kentucky Lake/Tennessee River was gorgeous. Stayed at Pebble Isle marina. Met up with some great loopers who had their 16-year old foster dog with them. Love petting other boater’s dogs – still glad we didn’t bring ours. Delicious cinnamon rolls prepared afresh by the harbor master (or his wife – there was some ambiguity on who actually makes the cinnamon rolls) each morning!
Camden TN to Clifton TN (Sat-Sun, Nov 4-5). Rob says ‘Every day is a National Geographic day!’ several times a day. Rightly so! Colors seem dull in photos vs. what we are seeing with our eyes. At Clifton Marina, dinner with other loopers and loved listening to The Clif-Tones, an excellent acoustic duo who recorded at Muscle Shoals. Neat story of how marina owners were originally looking on craigslist for a truck and came across a posting of the marina where we were staying – they ended up with both! They turned Clifton into a desirable destination for boaters. Great people. Great food. Great place. Highly recommend.
Clifton TN to Iuka MS (Sun-Thurs, Nov 5-9). With this leg we arrived at our 7th state: Mississippi. Left Clifton EARLY morning (6:15 AM/daylight savings) and had a quiet, no-tow-passing cruise to Iuka/Aqua Safe Harbor Marina. Toured Shiloh National Military Park while here.
Larger boats owners are curious about the inside of a 34’ Nordic Tug so one day at Aqua we toured each other’s boats. There was general consensus that Leland Tug is bigger on the inside than it appears from the outside. Credit to the previous owners, who named the boat after their dog, Leland Louise, for the tasteful décor. ‘Great headroom’ and surprisingly, ‘larger bathroom than we have,’ were among other positive comments received. The part we like best about our boat is that we can get into almost any marina at almost any time.
Much of our time at Iuka Rob worked while I planned a spontaneous side trip to Chattanooga.
